Breaking News: Fonseka rejects results

The EC has formally declared Mahinda as the winner. President Rajapaksa secured 6,015,934 or 57.88 per cent of the vote against the 4,173,185 or 40.15 per cent

Defeated presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka said a short while ago that he rejected the results of the election declared by the Elections Commissioner saying it has been distorted 100 percent.

Speaking to reporters from the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo, Fonseka said he would resort to legal against the election irregularities that deprived him of a victory.

He has also sent a letter to the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake stating his position in which he said he has decided not to accept the results declared by the Commissioner as they are “not valid and void in law.”

He has given ten points which he says make the election null and void including the depravation IDPs to vote on Election Day and a series of malpractices committed in the election including the changing of ballot boxes.

Meanwhile the Election Commissioner has requested to be relieved from his duties, as he was not able to withstand pressure from opposite sides.
