Shyness and Gender-4/10

Here are some of the findings of many survey's and research over the years by various agencies, people and organizarions.
  1. Indian males not shy of personal grooming
  2. Indian men are increasingly investing more time and money to enhance their looks, with 78 per cent of respondents feeling that it is ok for men to spend time and money to improve their appearance. 40 per cent of the total Indian respondents and 86 per cent under the age of 20 want to look stylish and well groomed always. It is interesting to note that for half of the Indian respondent (57 per cent) the idea behind looking good is to please their partners. 39 per cent of the respondents also invest in personal grooming to attract a partner. The percentage rises to a phenomenal 77 per cent in the age group 21-24.

  3. People in Asia Pacific, China, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines in particular, make an effort to enhance their appearance daily, weekly or monthly through Hair Care (66 per cent), Skin Care (57 per cent), Facial Treatment (40 per cent) and a host of other applications



  4. Chinese people 'too shy' to tell their mums 'I love you'
    This finding is based on an online survey of around 6,000 people, conducted by Beijing-based recruitment website Zhaopin.com. The surveyors found that even though 74.6 percent of participants reported knowing their mothers' birthdays, only 25.5 percent would like to actually tell her "I love you". "This figure suggests mothers occupy an important place in most participants' mind. Yet, many people still find it 'embarrassing' to express their affection,"

Discussions on sex is a major concern of couples in India where it ranks seventh in priorities for men and near the bottom for women, a survey of sexual habits of people in the Asia Pacific region has revealed. Indians still find sex a behind the doors topic,according to the 'Asia Pacific Sexual Health and Overall Wellbeing study'

  6. Increasing Use of Gadgets is Affecting the Social Life of People. According to Psychologist, Harvards Business school researcher and columnist Robin Abrahams, many people in the World are becoming shy because of gadgets. Talking has reduced and so is the face to face communication, making people more shy.

  7. A survey conducted across Europe suggests that young Britons are amongst the least interested in pursuing careers in science. young men were far more interested in new inventions and technology, while young women were attracted to subjects such as the Earth, the environment and the human body.

  8. Contrary to popular belief, women business leaders don’t shy from taking risks, but partake in opportunities considered to be "high-risk" on a regular basis, according to a survey by the Simmons School of Management in Boston.

  9. Shyness and social anxiety is common among both sexes, but almost all studies do reveal that social anxiety disorder is more prevalent among women. One reason may be Men do not accept it, and men may underestimate their levels of fear. Indian women business professionals were more confident of their career in a downturn, and were willing to ask for a pay rise and promotion, compared to their global counterparts, but were reluctant compared to their Indian male counterparts when it came to relocating themselves to advance their career and travelling globally. 61 per cent of women in India are feeling secure in the current economic scenario, as opposed to 56 per cent of males.

    When it came to agility, global figures indicated, 52 per cent women are willing to travel globally for business and 41 per cent would consider relocating themselves to another country to advance their career, in India, women appeared reluctant compared to their male counterparts.While 68 per cent Indian men said they were willing to relocate, 58 per cent women said they were willing to do so.- Survey by Accenture

  11. Relations between adult anxiety and mood disorders and retrospective reports of excessive childhood shyness were investigated in the US National Comorbidity. Results indicated that 26% of women and 19% of men described themselves as ‘very shy’ when they were growing up. Of these shy individuals, 53% of women and 40% of men met criteria for a lifetime diagnosis of one or more anxiety or mood disorders.

  12. One recent survey of Italian men, who are traditionally seen as sexually upfront and thoroughly opportunistic, found two-thirds, reported they felt too shy and too insecure about their bodies on the beach to chat up attractive women, and over half said they worried constantly about being had given the brush-off.
