THE BIGGEST JOKE IS INDIA UNDER CONGRESS SPENT 1600 CRORES TO BUILD A TOY SEA LINK WHICH RESULTED IN A SEVERER TRAFFIC SNARL. WHY CAN'T CONGRESS PERFORM AS EFFICIENT AS IT RELIABLY MANAGED THE EVM'S, IN THE ROADS TOO.
MANY COUNTRIES HAVE BUILT MUCH LONGER SEALINKS,BUILT IN SHORTER TIME AND VERY LESS COST.
1. What was supposed to be a Rs 300-crore project completed in 2004 actually cost Rs 1,600 crore and was completed five years late.
2. The 43km sea bridge connecting HongKong-Macau and Guangdong in China will be built in six years. COST 37.6 BILLION YUAN AND 18000 JOBS. The bridge will considerably cut travel times between Guangdong AND HongKong-Macau. Currently, Zhuhai, HongKong and Macau are only connected by sea ferries.
3. Hong Kong-Macau sea bridge or the 32km Donghai bridge in Shanghai, was built in 3.5 years.
4. China has built at least 10 sea links in fewer than eight years.
5. The Hangzhou Bay Trans-sea Bridge, the world's longest of its kind in east China's Zhejiang Province links up the Haiyan County of Jiaxing and Cixi, a city of Ningbo. It runs a full length of 36 kilometers, with an investment of 12 billion yuan[1.4 BILLION US DOLLARS] and a designed lifespan of 100 years. MAX SPEED 100 KM/HOUR. [ THE PREVIOUS DISTANCE BETWEEN THESE TWO PLACES WAS 400 KM AND AFTER THE SEA BRIDGE IT IS 80 - REDUCTION OF 320 KM]

6.THE WORLD'S LONGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGE IS the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan and even that took 10 years to complete and cost a whooping 3.6 billion dollars. it is 4 kms in length. but wait a minute this is part of the 81 km long Kobe-Narutoroute and the delay was mainly because of two ewasons. there was an earthquake in the region in 1995 which shifted position of two pillars which were the only one's installed by then and also this is a very busy strait way where 1400 ships per day pass the 1500 wide Akashi strait.
7. Now Rajiv Setu is open and the First day is jammed, thanks to over enthisiasm in Mumbai to be the first to use. Surely after 4th the traffic jam will not be there for there after there will be a toll charge of 50 per day. It is free till then.

8. Shiv Sena has opposed the naming of the sealink as Rajiv Sethu. They had initiated the project.
9. See a good report on the sea link from overseas below
10. See Laser show on eve of opening below
11. see Day 1 chaotic at Bandra-Worli Sea Link
12.see traffic jam

Rajiv Jee deserves all respects and regards. But he belongs to a political party that is thriving in the name of Nehru Gandhi. So naming a mass welfare project afte Rajiv Jee gives unfair political milage to Congress since over 50 % indians are very poor and could mistake the state expenditure as having done by a particular family. This practice has to be stopped. Better name it as Chattarpati Shiva Jee Setu or any other freedom fighter who did not taste political power at New Delhi after 14 August 1947 or why not after Subash chnader Bose or Bhagat Singh or Raj Guru or Lala Laj Pat Rai or Tilak or Gokhle.
