It is difficult to argue with Kapil sibal, for he is a well learned Lawyer, wise and smart. He is educated in Harvard and has traveled world wide. And off late all HRD Ministers seem to have their way, by whatever means. And above all what he has mooted today sounds path breaking and etc etc.
But there are questions. Is it Ok to have a system in a Democracy, like India where a single person can drastically bring in changes in the system, even if it were for good. Is it not proper if he arrives at a consensus instead of bull dozing a drastic change by simple means of an available majority?
ALSO IS IT ANY GOOD? INDIANS ARE HAVING A DISTINCT ADVANTAGE OVER THE WEST AND THAT IS OUR EDUCATION AND THAT IS WHY WE HAVE SO MANY BEING CHOSEN BY companies ABROAD. Are we by diluting the competitive spirit, losing that advantage?
Most in media will love this news for they all must have just made it when they were in board. And with most having Western education, surely they will cheer. And all Lawyers in India will cheer for not many toppers are among them. So to fix a system for the toppers by these, itself may be an injustice.
States like Gujarat and Maharastra of course will support the system while many southern states may differ for the marks tell it all.
But then having a uniform board exam is sounding good. Anyway, either way it looks like Sibal is simply in haste to prove a point.
It may not be enough if we seek opinion from the Children and teachers and the Politicians. We need to listen to India Inc. and many abroad too, or else may be five years down the line, we may repent.
When Sibal says "trauma" we almost experience, that is the effect of his words- No wonder he is an accomplished lawyer.
IIT's, IIM's will be diluted and reserved and then even 10th will not exist- Hope our children will have something to learn.
Hope this is not Obama's education plan,of India, for USA,by India.
