Shyness and Gender-3/10

Why does a female blush and why does she cover her mouth with her hand while blushing? - we asked this question to some females and some of the responses were atypical

1.Do I blush, at least not to my knowledge, If that is feminine, i am not and I am not bothered.
2.They cover the mouth to show their nail polish
3.we look cute when we blush
4.Did you get carried away?
5.It comes naturally, any problem?

6.It happens only in movies
7.May be because of over self consciousness
8.hereditary
9.fear i would utter something silly[?]
10.Even I wonder why?

Take the shyness test here.

What does science say?

The reddening of the face from a blush is due to the relaxation of the muscular coats of the small arteries, by which the capillaries become filled with blood; and this depends on the proper vaso-motor centre being affected. Blushing is not only involuntary; but the wish to restrain it, by leading to self-attention actually increases the tendency.

Women blush much more than men. It is rare to see an old man, but not nearly so rare to see an old woman blushing. The blind do not escape. [ so nothing to do with self consciousness?]. The tendency to blush is inherited.
*English women, blushing does not extend beneath the neck and upper part of the chest
*Blushing is evident in all the Aryan nations of Europe, and to a certain extent with those of India.
* Chinese blush rarely

Shyness is the chief cause for blushing.

Reason for covering face, mouth
Under a keen sense of shame there is a, strong desire for concealment. We turn away the whole body, more especially the face, which we endeavour in some manner to hide. An ashamed person can hardly endure to meet the gaze of those present, so that he almost invariably casts down his eyes or looks askant.
