Dhoni yaisa kyon hai

Is Dhoni playing some mind game or is he becoming too big for his shoes or is he being just plain. Probably he did not like the idea of he being subjected to fitness test etc, or probably he is making his place certain for the test side because dropping him may stir the senior vs. junior issue once again. Or is his speech a prelude to his entry to active Indian politics?

What ever is the reason it is very undiplomatic and overtly aggressive. If he had bull dozed himself to get a team he wanted he can do it yet again and so there was no need to reveal his hidden agenda. Inspite of this, if he had chosen to reveal his bias it should be only because, there must be resistance to his moves now or simply he being drunk by success.

In fact he did not play well in the tests in Australia and suddenly discovered form while captioning the ODI’s. So did he underplay himself while in Kumble’s side? I wonder what atmosphere will prevail in the dressing room of Indian side when the South Africans are here.

Many veterans have critised him for his comments and more have sritized the timing. But BCCI has supported him and as Boria rightly pointed out hope they support him even when he is in rough patch.

Dhoni in October 2007 after India's narrow win in Chandigarh ODI said this: "I think none said they are no longer needed. Frankly, you can't replace the seniors, given the amount of talent they have. They have proved themselves in this match as well,"

Dhoni further said "Of course we need to groom the youngsters side by side. Because if one day the senior players decide to leave the arena, you would be at sea. So you have to keep the juniors ready,".

And now he says:
"I was pretty clear about the players I wanted in the side. That`s what I said to the selectors as well. You can see the kind of team I got,"
"It`s very important because the process and the timing (of the selection) were criticised a lot. But sometimes it is very important to send the message across, because sometimes people neglect the answer,"

"What now? Why are people not asking the same questions now? Because if the result was not in our favour, what would have happened? Would the people have been really behind this side or behind individuals?"

"You (the critics) questioned this side but now that it`s performed you need to back it,"

"We all knew, and you all knew, what would have happened if this side didn`t do well in Australia. Now that it has done well, why don`t you appreciate the performance?"

Some years later Dhoni will be a senior and he should remember it.

Ippadikku Rose 20/3/2008

Who is jenitha and why is she in a chat show? She is a victim and was in news when she was packed off from the states in a miserable condition. As usual every media ripped the issue gave various versions and as usual very soon ‘she’ as news went in to archives. Now Rose has bought her to limelight, for a while. Rose discusses with her father and chithi and also ropes in Nirmala, a lawyer for consultation. Clippings about Jeni’s present life evoked grief.

Smalin Jennitha was married to Christy Danius, a software engineer on August 28 2006.The woman's father Sebastian told newspersons after deporting her to India on November 18th 2007 that Christy and his sister Leema had put her in a hostel within a week of their marriage and had left for US to live with their parents, who were US citizens. ''After repeated pleas Jenitha was taken to US only in March this year. But the trauma she underwent during her eight-month stint in US was unbearable'', he said. ''No sooner she reached US, Jenitha started calling me and said she was constantly being harassed by her husband and in-laws for not bringing them enough dowry'', he said.

The harassment continued despite the woman becoming pregnant.''On July 31, we received an e-mail from Christy that Jenitha sustained injuries in an accident and had been hospitalised in a state of coma,'', Mr Sebastian said.

Mr Sebastian said he immediately rushed to the US to meet his daughter where he found Jenitha in a state of coma. ''After treating there for a couple of months, we have decided to bring her back to India to keep under our care'', he added.

When the woman in advanced pregnancy stage, landed here from US in a special ambulance flight, the bruises all over her body were testimony to the harassment she had been subjected to by her greedy husband Christy Danius and his parents

It was reported that she was in coma when her parents went to states and later when in partial senses she complained that her hubby and his family pushed her out of car.

Rose looked very feminine and conducted her and the program well. As already mentioned by rose she is not finding any solutions either for Jenitha’s family nor for Dowry victims. She is just highlighting an event and showing us that this problem exists for women in our society.

Well she could have used more clippings about similar such events and also could have interviewed any member of US consulate or Jenitha’s Hubby family which could have added spice to the program.

Rose is doing well and has proved her mettle as a coordinator. Now she has to do more research for her programs and do some good editing to make her program crisp and neat. At times a long discussion with just a couple of non-celebrities becomes a drag, which she can overcome by bringing in timely clippings relevant to the show. I think she has made a beginning.

What she needs now is some more spice and something which will make her program be talked about- something like a scoop. I think the warm up is over.

We rate the show on 20/3/2008 as 7/10.

Even after this program in Vijay Tv the following questions about Jenitha still linger.

1.Is she still wife of Daniel, if so is he not liable for her maintenance?
2.If she has accused him of serious crime how was she sent off from usa without any case filed?
3.A case was filed by her father in Trichy police station what is its status?
4.USA has recorded the incident as a massive car accident. So no crime suspected, though parents allege it is. Even if so, can her husband abandon her as she was- what does the US laws say.
5.Did her parents make a mistake by bringing her here without pinning her husband.

Vijay and Chennai superkings

Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Nayanthara have been signed up to be the brand ambassadors for the Indian Premier League’s Chennai team, Chennai Super Kings, run by India Cements Limited. The team has the logo of a roaring lion and their tagline goes: Fearless entertainers who will play to win.

Vijay and Nayanthara two of the most popular actors in Kollywood, will add glamour to IPL's Twenty: 20 matches. Both of them will endorse Chennai Super Kings, appear on hoardings and in television ads, and will turn up at the matches (played in Chennai, Mohali, Kolkata and Mumbai) to cheer for Dhoni and his team.

Both the stars are riding a wave and are extremely popular in south India. India Cements Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, TNCA President and BCCI Treasurer N Srinivasan, the franchisee owner of Chennai Super Kings has pulled off a coup by getting two of the hottest stars in south to endorse for them.

The market buzz is that Vijay and Nayanthara who have never endorsed before (though Vijay has featured in a Coke commercial before he became a superstar) have been paid a bomb to endorse for Chennai Super Kings. -Sify.

Najim starts with 70, is the scores leaked?

Hours before yesterday's episode was telecast, one 'Apache' had predicted that Najim will get 70 in his first performance. He also reveals the other marks and means the match is already fixed. He has written it in a public forum and his predictions[ or is it a leak] are as follows.
Najim,
Kacheri – 70
Judges Choice – 80
Dakshina Moorthi Hits – 84

Durga

Kacheri – 83
Dakshina Moorthi Hits – 66

Amrutha

Thillana – 84
Judges Choice – 73

Thushar

Thillana – 70
Judges Choice – 78

Arun Gopan

Thillana – 83

Hisham

Kacheri - 76

The marks look believable let's see.

Rose snubs critic

Now you will understand why who's a critic was the previous post. Ippadikku Rose will be telecasting its fourth episode tomorrow. Meanwhile in a public forum Rose snubbed a mailer who wrote the earlier episode was so so . Her reply is as follows.

"Talking about controversial and socially tabooed subjects on TV that reaches to millions of people is like walking on a tight rope. There are numerous groups waiting out on the street considering themselves as police conserving morality and culture. Kushboo is running from court to court for making a statement that she has the absolute right to in a country that, at least on paper, gives the right to freedom of speech. I don't want to attract the attention of the self-appointed moral police. So my show has very sensitive limits. I am walking gradually towards a lot more openness. If the show is not up to your mark, you may look for a more open show. Or better still, please go ahead and produce your own open show and i will be very happy to watch it. Good luck"

IN the same forum there were many mails appreciating her performance as well. One of them is as follows[ without any editing]
I would like to appreciate your style of hosting the show.

"I just happened to watch one episode of your program on 03/13/08.
(Frankly speaking i had no intentions of watching that as i had these foll. thoughts in mind:-
Program time is 10:00 pm and It is hosted by a transgender and also program is about a sex worker. so this program would be another mid-night masala program. )

But it grabbed my attention in no time and i ended up watching the whole program despite the irritating advertisements.

Here below are some of the positives of the program.

1. You bringing the problems in legalising Sex-work like Spoiling culture, Break-up in marriage and stuff. I truly appreciate the way you conduct the show without defending the guests.

2. Your back-ground knowledge in the subject matter. I was wondering the way you threw the statistics about 90,000 sex workers in tamil nadu.

3. Your boldness in bringing vidya and make her to speak (I cant say the same about Nalini as she is already a known figure in the media).

Here below are some of the suggestions.
1. Please change the time in which the program is telecasted. It is surely not a titilating masala program. Please talk to the creative head to change the time.
2. Reduce the no. of commercial breaks. Please make the viewer atleast the discussion is on for a more time than the time spent of advertisements. If we could not compromise on the revenue of the program, let us show the no-commercial version of the program in the re-telecast sometime in the weekend."

We rated her earlier episode as 5/10 but we do not intend to produce a similar show nor watch some other program. Nevertheless sympathizing with her, we feel it is too early to pass a judgement. The program is slowly picking up and preview of tomorrow's show looks promising.

who's a critic?

A critic can be a friend in disguise or an unwanted enemy. It depends upon whether you are content with what you do or whether you want to improve. Either way critics will be there

It is true that all performers work, not necessarily hard. It’s true that they do what they think or made to do their best. But the outcome need not be proportionate to their effort. And what is important is the outcome more than the effort.

What is the barometer for the outcome? A film‘s best measure is its box office results. And how is it achieved. Audiences go for good stories, songs, dance, favorite actors, advertisements, mouth to mouth publicity, reviews, comedy, etc. And a critic can make or mar a film. Aag – a remake of Sholay by Ram gopal verma was a disaster more than it deserves. Of course it was no way close to the original but it went off sooner than it deserves. And the main reasons are the critics. Om shanti Om was not so great a film for achieving record collection. In fact except for Darr, Baazigar, kuch kuch hota hai and Raju bangaya gentleman none of shah rukh films impressed me. But it impressed most of the rest. And Shah rukh is good at publicity.

Everyone, Literate or illiterate has on opinion on anything and everything. Expressing them in words comprehensible is not everyone’s cup of tea. Many times we feel something is good or bad but may not be able to say why? But with expanse of knowledge accumulated by experience or studies, we know the reasons too. And to put them in as many interesting words compatible with the likes of an average viewer is the job of a critic.

I need not have an experience of the subject I am commenting. I need not be an expert in it. But I should have a keen eye and some basic knowledge to earn acceptance and later respect for my words. Criticism is also an art. Performers will deny this. But critics cannot deny performers. They live on them and so the performers think they are parasites. They think they are people with high cholesterol in their minds. But just like how there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol just like how some bacteria’s are helpful and others not, criticism can be useful or be simply ignored. That it should not arise is a wishful thinking. And the best and only remedy for negative criticism is better performance.

In a recent film fare function Shahrukh and khan had a dig at critics. They clandestinely gave them all the flowery ghalis in Hindi some of the worst kind but jocularly. Well the critics have no other go but to take it in their stride. But the performers cannot deny them a living.

A pen is mightier than sword, they say. And so it is not wise to rub shoulders with an open pen. A critic is like a policeman. It is not proper to have him as friend or a foe. Call him a parasite or bacteria, more like him or unlike him will grow. So Intelligence is to live with him. He need not require your permission to live of you, as the society has given him freedom to express. So you cannot influence his life but he can influence your life. Shah rukh is called King Khan because he knows how to use critics on his side. And that is not possible for all.

Normally a good critic is thick skinned. Any criticism about him should fall on deaf ears. He knows how much to take. So anyone criticizing a critic will actually be doing him a favor. His value increases. That is how the world runs.

What does a Judge do? She or he sets certain parameters for judgement and uses their perception on the performance of the candidates against these parameters. The perception gets more accurate by experience, studies and a healthy mind. What does a critic do? Similar, only that he is at a much lower pedestal than the Judges. So Judge is a higher critic, while a critic is a lower judge.

For something, which can be measured finitely there is no scope for criticism. . For example a mathematics paper. The answers are only one and so the marks can be determined by the correctness. But what is subjective, where the correctness is in a range, a critic has a major role to play. There is always a market for critics, because people tend to find answers for the non-finite. And this supply is because of a demand. All a performer can do is to reduce the range for the critic. If his performance is superlative by the standards prevalent then, a critic can only add to his performance. But if his performance is below superlative, then a critic will minus his performance. Or may be add to his performance. So a critic may be a bonus or penalty.

Any entertainment is subjective, by performance and criticism is only subjective. Every criticism will get more criticism and the moment a criticism gets a critic it is up the rating. Critics are always extroverts because they like to share what they think. They are normally people with confidence and rate themselves above average and have a ‘above earth’ attitude. They make friends and foes very easily. And it is never easy to have a good critic as your friend and worst an enemy. They can be a brake or an accelerator but the steering is with the performer.

They are humans and will exist as long as the humans exist, call them the necessary evil or the guardians of culture or somewhere in between, but acknowledge their existence for your own betterment.

A critic is one who expresses, true to his conscience exactly what he opines. Anyone can be a critic and everyone should be a critic.

Kushboo vs Simran ?

Kushboo will be in both Kalignar Tv and Jaya Tv at 8.00 pm on sundays. Jackpot[ at least till now] and Maanada Myulada in jaya and kalaignar respectively. And Simran will be around same time in Sun Tv. for super stars[ 9-10]. Though Jackpot ends at 9.00, Maanada is for the next hour also. There are eleven participants and they all performed their first inaugural number. Most of them are professionals and stunning. Special mention to AArthi and Ganesh for their mind blowing comedy. Priyadarshini was also great.

Rambha will replace Namitha. Namitha is busy in films and so taking a break. But somehow inspite of Rambha and Khusboo, Namitha was missed. Gokulnath was also good for the first song. There was signs of his trademark in his dance, but kala gave all credit to the choreographer. Gokulnath looks like will be the Raghav of this round. Sooner he goes out better for him. And surprisingly Sandy the great dancer was the master for both.

There is bigger crowd and it does not look like they will gel like the season 2. But kala is a master in this also. And it is too early to comment.

There are eleven pairs participating and they are as follows

Ganesh and Aaarthi[ Sun Tv super 10 fame],
Balaji and Priyadarshini[Newsreader, serial actress and sister of vijay TV DD],

Sun TV is going to arouse ram sentiments in the state. Will it?

well from this Sunday, surprisingly it is going to telecast the epic Ramayanam at 10.30-11.30 AM.

In the first time it was telecast in Doordarshan [1987 to 1988] and roads all over India were deserted during its telecast. The second telecast with new cast did not bring such overwhelming response but did bring good trp's for NDTV Imagine channel.

Following are some of highlights of the present version shooting.

Size of the set in Vadodara - 35 acres
Time spent shooting every day - 14 hours
Cast and crew on the sets daily - 300 people
Crowns, swords, bows and arrows - 600

Ippadikku Rose 13.3.2008

Sexual liberalism in a society can be defined as how tolerant that society is to open sexual behavior and different sexual tastes or practices. It is generally seen that societies that hold conservative attitudes towards sexuality also tend to suffer from a lack of general freedom of expression.

Ancient Indian society was perhaps as sexually tolerant as many modern European and East Asian countries. It was somewhere between the 1st and 6Th centuries that the Kama Sutra, the first literature that treated sexual intercourse as a science was written.

Even during the times of Buddha and Mahavira polygamy was prevalent in India albeit in the royal class. But during the Mughal and the British rule, India went in to a cocoon of conservatism.

The epics of ancient India, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, support the view that in ancient India, sex was considered a mutual duty between a married couple, where husband and wife pleasured each other equally, and was considered a private affair.

The translations of the Kama Sutra and other 'exotic' texts became available in Europe, where they gained notorious status, and ironically may have triggered early foundations of the sexual revolution in the west, while India slipped to their earlier conservatism.

The current laws in India that legislate sex workers are fairly ambiguous. It is a system where prostitution is legally allowed to thrive, but which attempts to hide it from the public. The undefined status of sex workers under current laws leaves them open to exploitation, not only at the hands of the police, but also clients who, for example, cannot be legally persuaded to use Condoms. Sex workers are not entitled to ration cards and are often precluded from the democratic processes of the country.

There are countries like Australia, Holland, Sweden and some states in the US where prostitution is legal -- a situation that has disclosed several advantages. For example, in the American state of Nevada, clients have to use a condom and refusal will get Jail term. To get a license, a sex worker goes through the sheriff's office, the Health Department and the State Prostitution Department. She is given a crash course in AIDS and STD’s before she gets a license. Health checks are carried out once a week, and if someone tests positive for HIV the license is revoked permanently. The out-of-work prostitute, however, is entitled to a monthly dole from social security.

But in a sexually conservative country like India, many emphatically dismiss the idea of legalizing prostitution. It would be tacit encouragement to women to take to the streets, they argue, in addition to which it would expose young Indians to amoral influences.

Stopping prostitution is impossible, while opening it up to regulation improves matters, even if it is morally unacceptable to many. But leaving it as it exists is neither here nor there -- and sitting on the fence isn't necessarily the best approach.

An NDTV investigation report telecast ed in February 2008, revealed how thousands of women and even children from Bangladesh are trafficked and sold in India. The phenomenon of Bangladesh women and even little girls sold or trafficked into India isn't new, but over the past few years, there seems to have been an alarming jump.

Ippadikku Rose on 13Th March 2008 discussed exactly on the above subject. Without passing any judgement it left an open end. Rose along with Charu nivedhitya, a controversial Tamil writer, Nalini Jameela an aged sex worker participated.

Nalini’s voice is strong and unrepentant, that of a woman who knows what she is doing and not that of a victim forced into the trade through guile. Though she initially took up the trade as a young widow to feed her two children, in later life she tries to find dignity in the work she does. She has expressed the same in her book The autobiography of a sex worker, which got her money and fame. The original was in Malayalam.

Charu Nivedhitya is popular as a modern Tamil writer. He is controversial and his konal pakkangal in anandha viketan till not long ago was popular.
He has written books like rasa leela, thappu thalangal, Zero degree, Existentialismum Fancy baniyanum etc. His writings frequently exhibit his dissatisfied subaltern life style and his understanding of the society. And that is exactly how he was in the program.

Rose was coordinating the discussion with apt questions. But as usual a sudden beginning and an abrupt end with empty breaks and disturbing background music, turned the otherwise TRP generator topic in to a mediocre. Of course in a land where Kushboo is still running from one court to another for expressing her views on pre marital sex, They had to play it down.

Well 5/10 is my rating.

Gopinath was never Arrested

It's Him, Gopi Teja

Shocking but true. A few days back headlines in leading dailies proclaimed that Gopinath a producer and anchor in Television was arrested for a sexual abuse attempt in ECR road resort.

In the latest issue of Kumudam reporter, it is clear that the arrested person was Gopi Teja who produced Vedikkai Vilaiyattu in Makkal TV. With full details of the episode it also throws light on Chennai corporate club where this incident took place. On the day of this event, all dailies carried news making it seem it is Gopinath of Vijay TV. Only Dinathanthi had written he is from Makkal TV but it too mentioned the name as Gopinath.

Unlike what was reported earlier, Gopi Teja had taken the girl in his car with a pretext that ECR will be good locale for a outdoor shoot and screen test and she went along with him and his group. When he took her to a room in the mentioned club she found it without any shooting equipments. she tried to escape when the club staff advised her to cooperate. She somehow took the number of the nearby police station and rang them. The police arrested Gopi Teja, his friend and some staff of the club.

From 9Th, Makkal TV stopped telecasting Vedikkai Vilaiyattu program. Vedikkai Vilaiyattu was a program in Makkal TV, Every Sunday, 10 a.m. The host, Gopi Teja, posed a question, which can be about anything, to persons whom he meets on the road. Those who give correct answers spontaneously were rewarded.

See our earlier posting Gopinath Arrested.

See Kumudam reporter for their full news.

Will Cassini find Life?

Cassini–Huygens is a joint NASA/ESA/ASI robotic spacecraft mission currently studying the planet Saturn and its moons.

Cassini spacecraft will make an unprecedented "in your face" flyby of Saturn's moon Enceladus Today.
The spacecraft, orchestrating its closest approach to date, will skirt along the edges of huge Old-Faithful-like geysers erupting from giant fractures on the south pole of Enceladus. Cassini will sample scientifically valuable water-ice, dust and gas in the plume.
The source of the geysers is of great interest to scientists who think liquid water, perhaps even an ocean, may exist in the area. While flying through the edge of the plumes, Cassini will be approximately 120 miles from the surface. At closest approach to Enceladus, Cassini will be only 30 miles from the moon. .
This is the first of four Cassini flybys of Enceladus this year. In June, Cassini completes its prime mission, a four-year tour of Saturn. Cassini's next flyby of Enceladus is planned for August, well into Cassini's proposed extended mission. Cassini will perform seven Enceladus flybys in its extended mission. If this encounter proves safe, future passes may bring the spacecraft even closer than this one. How close Cassini will be allowed to approach will be determined based on data from this flyby.

Cassini was launched on October 15, 1997 and entered into orbit around Saturn on July 1, 2004, Has identified four new moons of Saturn, sent pictures of Phoeba , a moon and sent pictures of Venus and Jupiter while passing them.

In the first two close flybys of the moon Enceladus in 2005, Cassini discovered a "deflection" in the local magnetic field that is characteristic for the existence of a thin but significant atmosphere. Other measurements obtained at that time point to ionized water vapor as being its main constituent. Cassini also observed water ice geysers erupting from the south pole of Enceladus, which gives more credibility to the idea that Enceladus is supplying the particles of Saturn's E ring. Mission scientists hypothesize that there may be pockets of liquid water near the surface of the moon that fuel the eruptions, making Enceladus one of the few bodies in our solar system to contain liquid water

If it does discover water - it could shoot Enceladus to the top of the list in the search for life beyond earth.

Ms Vishwanathan jolts Idea

The reason why so many malayalies become good singers and why so many are singers in Tamil and other language films was revealed in Asianet Idea star singer. MG Sreekumar and Sarath are by themselves expert musicians. The respect and revere they give to their elder, legend and genius MS Vishwanathan is unparalleled in Tamil world. No channel has so far given the well deserved respect to him. Music is the language of Gods and the talent is given by him to those who have these qualities. Malayalies follow the parampara till date and that is probably why they are so good in Classical singing. The way Sreekuar and Sarath and Usha didi point out each and every mistake is the proof of their expertise and wisdom.

Musicians more than other professionals tend to be more biased. They make quick opinions and try to defend their opinions. There are always conflicts between them because of this. Many Idea star singer forums reflecting public sentiment were vouching for Durga. many said she is being treated unfair. And many opined Anurtha was getting more than she deserves.

MS Vishwanathan seem to have reflected the public sentiment. Ofcourse he went by his judgement and it coincided with public perception. He also offered a singing chance in his next venture for Durga and Arun Gopan. He gave 22 for Durga, 15 for Hesham and Amurtha, and 16 for Arun Gopan. This is from a man who is revered as a genius of his time and one who knew the public pulse. Even today he is the best composer of Tamil films. Illayaraja and AR Rahman are better in sophisticated instrument usage of today but they are no where near him in composition. Durga can be and should be in the top of the world, deservedly.

MS Vishwanathan is coming back to Tamil films by being Music director for Valiban Sutrum Ulagam. The Film Produced by Sri Jai Shakthi creations. Story, Screen play, and dialogues are all done by A.R.Lalithasamy.M.G.R.Siva and Meenakshi are introduced in the film. The other co-stars are M.G.R.Hari, Manorama, Latha and Vennira Addai Moorthy.

Durga scored 89 in her fourth round. Her total marks are 316/400 [ average-79] , while Anurtha after finishing four rounds has scored 302/400 and Hesham is 289/400. [He scored 74 yesterday]. Najim having scored 257 already in first three rounds will be the first in semifinals followed by Durga. The third position is still close to call, though Amurtha has the most chances. Arun or Tushar has to score 90+ to overtake her. The rest are not reachable.

Nehru back to form in Kathipara

See Latest update in "flyover Tourism"

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is about to fulfill a promise it made about three years ago: re-installation of a Jawaharlal Nehru statue at the centre of the Kathipara junction.

The statue will be back at its original site near the recently erected high-mass lights within a week, according to sources. At present, it stands on the Inner Ring Road, close to its former site.

The statue was shifted in mid-2005 to make way for the grade separator at the junction. The move annoyed locals and politicians, following which TR Baalu, the Union Minister in charge of National Highways and the local MP, promised that it would be restored to its original location after construction was over.

Three C's in Indian Television

Television news channels in India are obsessed with celebrity culture which centres on Bollywood while the three Cs - cinema, crime and cricket encapsulate most of their content, according to new book.

News content on Indian television channels has become hostage to the global spectre of infotainment as reflected in the “Bollywoodization” of the news culture, says Daya K Thussu, professor at the University of Westminster.

In his book titled “News as Entertainment: The Rise of Global Infotainment”, Thussu looks at the rise of infotainment - the merging of information and entertainment - across the globe.

“The three Cs - cinema, crime and cricket - encapsulate most of the content on Indian television news programmes. The three Cs are indicative of a television news culture that is increasingly becoming hostage to infotainment,” he writes.

Thussu adds that the growing tabloidization of television news reflected the influence of the Rupert Murdoch effect on news and current affairs television in India.

It can be argued, he writes, that the ideological imperatives of infotainment were debasing the quality of public deliberations in the world’s largest democracy.

In a separate chapter titled “Indian infotainment: the Bollywoodization of TV news,” Thussu traces the history of the growth of television in India, and notes that Indian television news now demonstrated a global trend towards infotainment.

The same is more than true for Chennai Television. What attracts TRP is Cinema, Crime and Cricket, so why blame the Channels. Makkal TV tries to be different but many don't even know it exists.

Gopinath Arrested

It's not HIM

In an industry where whispers of casting couch and exploitation of women abound, a girl threw caution to the wind while chasing her dream of becoming a compere.

Priya, an 18-year-old college student, however, managed to keep her wits about and escaped the clutches of her molesters.

Priya had met a producer-cum-compere, Gopinath, of a TV channel during his roadshow recently.

She fell for the bait when Gopinath called her on Saturday evening to a club on East Coast Road. Shooting was on at the club, he allegedly told her, and also said that she would have to take a make-up test at the spot if she wanted to become a compere.

Priya went to the club alone and this is where she faltered. She was directed to report to room number 203, allegedly by a couple of staff at the club.

When Priya reached the room, she did not find cameras or spot boys. Instead, she saw some liquor bottles and a man in the room - who was later identified as Kamaraj, Gopinath’s friend.

In the complaint she later filed with the Neelangarai police, Priya said that Gopinath and Kamaraj pounced on her and tried to molest her.

She somehow managed to free herself and ran to the club staff to alert them.

The staff, Satish and Kumaravel, advised her to act according to Gopinath’s wishes, Priya alleged. She then got a complaint lodged, after which all four were arrested.
Source- New Indian express

The news was reported by New Indian Express in Front page. It was also carried by Hindu in regional columns. The news was carried by UNI. Dinamalar has this news item. It says Gopinath is a makkal Tv producer.[so it is not Neeya Naana gopinath?] All news make it seem it is Neeya naana fame Gopinath, because he is the most popular compere. But it is not him. Police have told he is producer in Makkal Tv. Then why mention Populor Tv compere without mentioning his associations. This is injustice to the other Gopinath. Even if it was him this news item sounds very politically coloured.

Normally casting couch is prevalent in kolywood just like anywhere else. But most without public knowledge. Shakti Kapoor, A popular Hindi movie Villain was embroiled in controversy in 2005, when during a sting operation he solicited sexual favors from a television reporter posing as an aspiring Bollywood actress. The incident caused the actor to be ostracized for a short period of time, but then the public got over it He was embarrassed for a while but overall it was a publicity useful to him and he later also was a judge of a popular comedy show.

Neelankarai and the ECR hosts many clubs and farm houses. Many are controversial and some were even caught for illegal dance shows and parties. But most of them have powerful connections and generally the cases are dead soon. Even in this case if Gopinath was associated with any of the ruling party channel may be this would not be news for public. Also a girl going alone to a club for screen testing in Neelankarai is slightly unimaginable. And then coming out unscathed and then complaining looks even more indigestible. Police taking swift action and giving all names to news paper sounds apolitical. We all know how Maran claimed on Febraury 15Th that many SCV operators were arrested midnight and were black mailed to switch over. Is this any such initiative?

Most probably this news will die soon after some compromise and will go to archives sooner than our expectation.

The fearless Vijay and Anu- Hats off

Females were household commodities till not long ago. Today they are seen everywhere and are doing what was considered as Male's domain also. There is nothing they cannot do is what they are trying hard at. A auto rickshaw driver, a bus conductor, a pilot, an army woman, a scientist, they are many who do these and have changed the impression of women. The best tribute to women on their day was in Vijay TV at yesterday night- Anu alavum bayam ellai. Three daring Females express their controlled fear and make men look smaller.

Jaya Tv recently held a women's only talent show where one of the event was women in the Karts. Car race etc are being tried by women. In anu alavum bayam ellai the first step in competition was to try moving a circular string in a box consisting of many cockroaches. The motive is to move it without touching the rod over which it was circled. Each time it touches there was light and the shortest time plus lesser touches decided the winner. The next was daring. In a pond they were asked to pick lotuses one at a time and the first two maximum plucker's went to the next round. The catch was there were Snakes in the pond too. Lakshmi rai and Monica moved to the next round. The final round was a stunt show. To walk on a small way put on the top at about 60 feet. Anu showed them how to do and then they did it. MONICA was the winner crossing both sides in less than 30 seconds. The loser of early round upstaged her when out of competition she tried the same feat. She did it in 21 seconds. All three deserve applause.

Hats off to Vijay TV for this program and hats off to the contestants and Anu Hassan.

The first ten women in tamil television

Television in Tamilnadu has more female viewers than males. For obviously there most are House wives and hence have more time available to get hooked. Many serials and game shows are produced keeping this in view. The female psyche is used to the hilt. But how many females have made it big in Tamil television.

Surprisingly the answer is plenty. Infact the female artists in Tamil televisions are more popular than males. A heroine sells a serial and increases TRP, Game shows are mainly hosted by females or else a pair. Very few males have shined as hosts in Tamil television. The Top ten ' Visible' females not in order are Radhika, Kushboo, Meena , Devyani, Divya darshini, Master Kala, Pepsi Uma, Simran,Anu hassan, Uma Riyaz and suganya.

Sripriya,Sita, Brinda das,Bhanu priya, Suhasini,Paravai muniamma,Anitha Kuppusami, Nalini,Easwari Rao, Gayathri, Devadarshini, Deepa venkat, gayathripriya, Meena kumari and Nethra are in top Twenty five. Surprisingly most are ex film artists. They are artists who can get TRP's by their own strength.

The most contributors back stage are Subha Venkat- screenplay and dialogue writer and incharge teleivion content for Pyramid samira, Subhasri Thanikachalam - Talent show producer, Vijayalakshmi Ramesh Prabha a producer, Kutti padmini, etc.

The top female Judges are Master Kala, Brindha, Namitha, Pooja, Simran, Kushboo, paravai muniyama, Meena, Ramyya Krishnan, Mallavika, Mumtaj etc.

Most news readers are women. So they are in the top, as and when television is on.

A warm Rose

Ippadikku Rose second episode was about models. Rose had invited six models and then a former Miss south India. They discussed about modeling, a few tips, about sexual harassment if any, image prevailing about models, conservatism vs. models etc.

The advantage Rose has is her present gender. Being what she is, she gels easily with females. She asked some straight and provocative questions which a female will not dare to ask and which a male if asks, will not entice proper response. That is her strength. She is fearless and is not unduly worried about the outcome. She lets her to be her own self and that is it.

Two episodes have gone but it is not an arousing welcome to Rose. Neither are their any adverse remarks. The show is definitely not a sensation, not as yet. In one of the forums, some one had written that this could be hosted by anyone why Rose in particular. Rose replied that the aim is to bring Transgender to mainstream and to prove that given an opportunity they can perform like any other gender.

Rose is eager for feedbacks and looks like she is improving. But she has a long way to go. Her shows can be made better with proper introduction to the day’s agenda by using video clippings and using more such clips in the midst of the program. She should also use the stage audience and should not end the program abruptly.

The greats like Oprah, Visu, Anu, Lakshmi etc conduct their programs like it is a film. They have a definite screenplay with a starting, end, climax etc. and that is what makes their programs interesting. Visu is commendable for even after so many shows, his shows are still enticing. There is a tempo in his talk shows.

For the second episode our mark is 5.5/10.

Maran vs. Azhgiri- Tamil weeklies add fuel to fire.

1. Chronology of events

a.Dayanidhi complains to police on Feb 15th that SCV operators are harassed and blackmailed to switch over to a rival company
b.Opposition leaders like Jayalaitha Vaiko, and Sarat kumar voice support to his cause
c.Maran’s paper carry lots of Aiadmk friendly advertisements on the eve of Jayalaitha’s birthday.[ Feb 24]
d.Dayanidhi goes to Delhi meets Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi- Details not revealed [Feb 25]
e.Dayanidhi attends Parliament session and is seen sitting in Ministers benches. [Feb 26 March 1]
f.Karunanidhi writes a poem describing Dayanidhi as ungrateful and a prahalad of Murosoli Maran.
g.Stalin Birthday advertisements in Dinakaran [March 1]
h.Kalanidhi visits Stalin to wish him, and before that meets Karunanidhi with close relatives.

The Aftermath
Tamil weeklies and newspapers analyze these events and there are more than two versions on the aftermath. Junior Viketan, Kumudam Reporter, Tamilan Express, Nakeeran and Thuglak carried this news and analyze them as front-page stories.

While both Junior Viketan and Kumudam reporter claim that Azhagiri fumed after this and went to Karunanidhi’s house and sought explanation. Junior viketan claims Karunanidhi had a tough time in pacifying Azhagiri and with a help of a minister assured Azhagiri that status quo will be maintained. Stalin was summoned and was told by him not to show any friendly gestures to the Marans. Stalin had opposed this and has said that It is in the Interest of the party that the family feud should end. He is supposed to told Karunanidhi that Azhagiri is getting all importance and is using his clout to use police and Kalaignar Television. Karunaidhi had used a emotional blackmail of willing to step down if not heard. Stalin is supposed to have retorted that he will resign in case his wish is not met. All this in Junior Viketan in a format as if their reporter was in Scene. They also mention all the people around when these took place-giving credence to their report.

Kumudam Reporter also says Azhagiri fumed but ends by saying that Karunidhi has clearly told his officials that there is no peace and things have not changed. It also claims that he did not speak much to Kalanidhi.

Nakeeran in its cover story claims Kalanidhi met Karunanidhi to request him not to precipitate matters by ousting Dayanidhi from party as was rumored as the next eventuality. Other weeklies told that Stalin felt that the Marans getting close to opposition will do immense harm to parties and that is why he responded to peace overture. Also Dayanidhi is supposed to have included Azhagiri as first culprit in dinakaran office episode by using friendly men in CBI.
Tamilan Express gives an entirely different version. It claims that nothing was without Azhagiri’s knowledge. It also claims that Azhagiri has mellowed down in his opposition to the Marans and most probably Kalanidhi might meet him in near future. It claims that Karunanidhi informed Azhagiri in advance that they are coming to meet him.

Of course anything can happen in politics. But Azhagiri not going in person inspite of being in Chennai and also his friendly district head of Madurai and Theni also not coming to wish Stalin gives us an Impression that the Junior Viketen versions more close to Truth. The new Indian Express in March 3rd claimed that Azhagiri is flexing muscles by being serious in making Royal cable vision, [a direct competition to the Marans] as a success.
Karunanidhi being an astute politician is still keeping all options open and is yet to reveal his cards in open.

Ippadikku rose- 6.3.2008

The second episode of Ippadikku Rose is about models. The preview of the program is available here.

Rose said in a forum that 'The first show was a silent starter. Do not be disappointed, the upcoming episodes are much more appealing'

She also said "you can read my profile on ippadikku rose's webpage at vijay.indya.com. Other than that, i was the third child to my parents. I have three siblings. I live with my family in Tnagar, Chennai. I love Chennai and that's one reason i returned to the city from the US aside from wanting to make a big presence in the media here as a trangender person.I love music, fitness, to groom myself and to wear the most flattering costumes. I also love good food, greenery, pleasant weather, egoless friends, watching movies"

Hats off, Harbhajan's turban on.

Call it the Divine Justice, fairy tale or whatever the two finals are life time achievements for Harbhajan and he will never forget these finals.

Two men, Andrew Symonds and Hayden were extremely inhuman to him. The former saw an animal in his unspoken words and the latter saw weeds in him, as a person. The former complained and an over friendly match refree banned Harbhajan for a few matches. BCCI fought for harbhajan and ensured that the racial slur accusation is removed from his name. Otherwise it would have been an irreparable loss to Singh and the country's image.

Then the Australian media started haunting him., The obnoxious interview of Hayden and the scratch by him increased the acidic response from the Australian media. No other personality was flashed across the front and back pages of Australian newspapers as much as Harbhajan. There was a separate camera covering him in the second final.

Just like how Murali was insulted and troubled they tried it on him. Murali took it on his stride worked his way and subjected himself to further humiliations to clear the chucking slurs. But the turbanotor is built with different nerves. On the one hand he let his performance give a fitting reply. He took the wicket of Andrew in both the finals. And he took Hayden's wicket in the first and was the most instrumental in Hayden's run out in the second finals. He also gave back in the same kind be it ricky ponting, hayden or whom so ever. This bold man is what India is made of today. Gentle only till provoked. He has made all sardars proud and hats off to him.

In an on the field Interview he Quoted Guru Gobind Singh and said 'Sawa lakh se ek ladaun, Tabe Gobind Singh naam kahaun' [One Sikh is enough for 125,000 people]".
and that is what he achieved here. "I love challenges and though people were booing me, I tried to ignore it," he said in the aftermath of India beating Australia 2-0 in the CB Series finals.

"I don't know what will happen to the Australian media without Bhajji [Harbhajan]," Dhoni said with a smile. "He was always there on the front page.He became a Michael Jackson sort of personality." Dhoni felt that Harbhajan, and the rest of the Indians, grew stronger in the face of criticism."The Aussie media criticism worked in our favour and we got used it after almost three months."

The Aussies would have learnt that Sardars are good when friends and deadly when enemies. Punjab should be proud of their son.

Dhoni boys create history: Australia humbled.

Breaking News: India has won the finals of CB series. They won the first two out of three with the third pending.
Inspite of sledging, racial accusations and Radio bashing, Indians proved they are on the way to the top and has dislodged the toppers. Australia may soon see a new face as captain and may take a few more matches to regain their confidence.
There was a great show by Australians in the last ten overs of Indian batting and similarly while batting they kept the suspense till the last over.
The best team won and they should now be treated as equals And Indians should be magnanimous to forget past and work for the top most position.

Dhoni is in the top of the world and Chennai superkings must be very happy.
India was 204/2 in 39th over but managed to score only a 258/9 in 50 overs. Their batting failed.
Praveen kumar took four wickets, Harbhajan knocked off Symonds once again, and Tendulkar made 91.
This week belongs to India.

scores:

India: 258 for 9 in 50 overs (S Tendulkar 91, Yuvraj Singh 38, M.S. Dhoni 36; N Bracken 3/31 Michael Clarke 3/52)

Australia: 249 all out in 50 overs (M Hayden 55, J Hopes 63; P Kumar 4-46, S Sreesanth 2-43).

Praveen Kumar has been declared as the 'Man of the Match'

[I would like Hayden to hear his Radio interview once again. ]

This intense and tense match was not free of controversies. see below the write up in Times now.

"On the verge of losing the Commonwealth Bank series finals, the Australians were seen playing it very dirty indeed. The visuals showed how the Aussies seem to be doing everything under the sun to deny Indians a win. India's little master Sachin Tendulkar was pulled down by bowler Michael Clarke in a bid to stop the ball and deny the Indians a single.Coming as it does after the Harbhajan Singh-Symonds controversy as well as Sunday's allegations against Bhajji, this once again highlighted the unsportsmanlike behaviour of the Aussies.
See video here
The second controversy

Symonds's innings included a rib-rattling shoulder charge of a streaker just after he came to the crease with his team in dire straits. It's unclear whether the all-rounder, an avid rugby league fan, will find himself in hot water for the pole-axing.

Symonds could face a fine or ban if the International Cricket Council decides he breached section 4.2 of the code of conduct relating to physical assault of a rival player, official or a spectator.

Ponting said "India dominated us over the last couple of games and congratulations to them. They outplayed us in the finals - they deserve the trophy,'' he said.

India's title win justified the controversial omission of veterans Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman for the tri-series tournament.

"It's very important because I believe this is a building stage of my team because of our youngsters and that we left off a lot of older players,'' said Dhoni.

Australia ko chukka diya Dhoni, Chak de India.

Latest Cable TV news - Tamilnadu

Latest News – Cable TV Tamilnadu

Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (ACTCL)

Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (ACTCL), representatives of the firm expressed confidence that it would start business from four centres - Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Thiruvannamalai and Thanjavur, in June, 2008. However, the announcement skipped Madurai, an important centre, where Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s son M K Azhagiri is likely to establish his Royal Cable Vision. A decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of the Advisory Committee to the ACTCL held at the Secretariat. However, members of the Federation of Cable TV Associations (FCTA) have charged that representatives of its member associations, constituting 80 per cent of the operators in the State, were not invited for the crucial meet while those belonging to the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators General Welfare Association, who attended the discussions, denied this. Representatives of cable TV operators reporters at the Secretariat that the ACTCL had recently called for global tenders for supply, installation, testing and commissioning of digital cable TV head-ends at four centres. The tenders will be opened March 12, 2008.

Once the tenders are finalised, works establishing MSOs will start and the services gradually extended to other parts the State, operators said. So far as Chennai is concerned, ACTCL will start its MSO once it gets the necessary permission from the Centre.

SCV Sumangali Cable Vision

Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Dayanidhi Maran lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police on Feb 16th 2008, stating that police had taken into custody cable television operators belonging to Sumangali Cable Vision late on Friday night “without assigning reason” in parts of South Chennai. He had come to the police headquarters giving prior information. But there was no top officials in the office when he came.

On Feb 15th, a cable operator Prakash, who runs Sai Ram Satellite System in Nandanam, had lodged a complaint with the Pondy Bazaar police station that consumers were not receiving signals because cables had been damaged. He had alleged that cable operators Muralidharan, who runs Sriram Cable Network and Kishore Kumar of Sivasakthi cable network, had damaged cables thus preventing signal reception. Mr. Prakash supplies transmission signals to Ashok Nagar, Mambalam and K.K. Nagar areas through Hathway. The accused receive transmission signals through SCV.
Based on Prakash’s complaint the Assistant Commissioner of Police had picked up Muralidharan and Kishore Kumar around 11.30 p.m. and questioned them and later let them off. The Commissioner said no one else had been detained in this regard.
Vaiko, VijayKhant and Jayalalitha surprisingly sang the tune of Dayanidhi by telling Government should not take sides.
Dayanidhi was seen sitting in Treasury benches during Budget presentation. in the Loksabha.
He also met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and immediately it was headlines.
Earlier His newspaper carried many advertisements from AIADMK on the eve of Jayalaitha’s Birthday celebrations creating shock among DMK loyalists.
Stalin’s birthday on March 1st was more news. Kalanidhi turned up to greet Stalin and it was told that he also met Karunanidhi and a trice is in offing.

Cable war sirens

“Kalanidhi and Dayanidhi Maran may be trying to build bridges with Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Stalin, but Azhagiri is not relenting. He is preparing to launch Royal Cable to take on the Marans' Sumangali Cable Vision. Expect the fight to get dirtier Azhagiri's stronghold Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi” – This is what is claimed by New Indian Express in their Today’s edition.

The following are the excerpts of their article written by Gokulvannan, and Titled Cable War set to hot up.

A.RULING THE AIRWAVES
1. 10crore -Total population of Tamil Nadu
2. 2 crore estimated total number of cable connections in the State
3. 40,000 total number of cable operators in the State
4. 50lakh cable connections in southern districts
5. Average charge per connection 100-150 Rs
6. MSO's share of the revenue 90per cent Cable operator's share 10per cent

B. The State Government, which recently created its own cable operations company, Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Television Corporation, significantly omitted Madurai from the list of places where it plans to set up MSO head-ends. This leaves it virtually open for Azhagiri to mount a challenge to SCV's near monopoly in the region. According to cable industry sources in Madurai, he has already roped in some of key persons managing the SCV operations in the southern dis tricts and is working hard to wean away cable operators from the SCV fold.

C. Several senior members of the Cable Operators Guild, who were eagerly awaiting the launch of operations by Arasu Cable, now fear that they may get caught in the crossfire of the cable war between Azhagiri and the Marans.Operators in Madurai already had a taste of it a few months ago when a section of cable operators got together, allegedly at the behest of Azhagiri, to set up their own MSO and offer 50 free-to-air channels at Rs 50 a month. This was seen as a move not only to counter SCV but also the direct-to-home (DTH) offer by the Sun TV Group.A potentially explosive situation had developed with the cables of some of the Operators being cut but was defused due to intervention of the ‘powers that be' in Chennai. The plan for the rival MSO was also dropped at the time.

D. KEY PLAYERS IN SOUTHERN DISTRICTS
1. Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV) : Run by the Marans.Has near total monopoly in Madurai and Tirunelveli; 60 per cent market share in other places
2.Akash Cable Network: Strong in six major centres, including Dindigul, Theni, Tirumangalam and parts of Kanyakumari. Now reported to have thrown in its lot with Azhagiri
3. TV Ramesh: In Thoothukudi, Kodaikanal and parts of Dindigul. Is an SCV loyalist
4.Others: Dozen independent MSOs in places like Rajapalayam, Tenkasi and Virudhunagar

Kalaignar and sun- inseparable?

The surprise meeting between the Chairman and Managing Director of Sun TV Network and Dinakaran Tamil daily Kalanithi Maran and DMK president Karunanidhi and MK Stalin has created hope that the meet may signal a new thaw in the relationship between the Marans and the Chief Minister's family.

Saturday's birthday bash of Local Administration Minister MK Stalin proved to be a catalyst and Kalanidhi met both Karunanidhi and Stalin.

Sources in the DMK, said most members of Karunanidhi’s family desire a reconciliation to happen. Interestingly, Stalin is said to be showing keenness in ending the sense of alienation among the larger family.

However, the road block to rapprochement is said to be the overlapping business interests of Marans and the political aspirations of the DMK president’s immediate family members.

Also how Azhagiri the elder son will digest this new episode is a moot point. The Sun TV still operates from Arivalayam and No doors are closed as yet. The cross overs and the people who took sides are bound to get jittery. Dayanidhi Maran was seen sitting in treasury benches during budget presentation and has also met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi recently. Karunanidhi wrote a provoking Poem and the marans are said to have responded that they know how to retaliate if stretched beyond limits. But all this was before the birthday of the Youth wing president, 56 year old Stalin, the heir apparent.

We had predicted earlier that some day this could happen. But we never thought so soon.
The following is what we wrote in the posting Break the remote or stop the breaks

"There are also many who feel the fight is not real. And even if so may not last long. Sun TV still operates from anna arivalayam and the marans are not flexing their muscles. Before their split it was a weopen in hands of opposition that because of sun TV DMK is going slow in cauvery and mullaiperiyar dispute. Now that is forgotten. Was the split a melodrama to get this result? Now eighty percent of kalaignar TV staff is from SUN TV and may be soon kalaignar TV will gobble Raj TV. And then it is monopoly"

TV Channels make 'Rich India'

Notorious for irritating frequent and long commercial breaks, the television channels are good taxpayers giving to the exchequer more than one-third of their pre-tax profits, much higher than the industry average of about 20 per cent.

The television channels have paid 36.37 per cent of their profit as tax compared to the industry average of 20.60 per cent, said finance ministry’s data of the corporate tax paid by 3.28 lakh companies during 2006-07.

.
The data pointed out that during the year 167 television channels on a profit of Rs 788.9 crore paid Rs 286.9 crore as tax to the government.

The 36.37 per cent tax paid by television channels was only next to forest contractors, security agencies and courier services, which paid 39.33 per cent, 37.80 per cent and 37.64 per cent respectively, of their profits as tax to the exchequer.

Vijay Jodi number one

Anything measurable will be measured and there will always be an attempt to measure even the immeasurable. Human mind is critical and it is the questions why who how when and where which are the basis and basics of human development. The main quality to be critical is a thinking mind and a balanced and logical thinking. Talent is not a requisite but can add value to the judgement.

Well the above arose in my mind when I was contemplating what caliber do I have to give marks for SJ Surya , Master Sundaram and Sangeetha. All three are professionals and achievers. SJ Surya may not be a great dancer but that he has a keen eye for dance and knows the pulse of the audience, which he proved in his films. Master Sundaram is a powerful force in Tamil films. He has choreographed many hits and has produced sons who are keeping his flag very high. Sangeetha is a good dancer and has proved her judgemental capacity in more than one reality show. So why be critical of them?

Even a Supreme Court judgement is commented now a days. Opinions and comments made by estemmed leaders are ridiculed now a days. The reasons are many. We live in a free world and so have freedom to pass comments. Secondly today's generation is more critical and expects to be equal to all. So they do not like to be tutored, judged but would like to do the same. The kids in the show Jodi number one had a ball while commenting on the zero to Prajin. Using it as an opportunity to get closer to the judges, they even criticized Prajin They were not very critical about Jeeva because probably he was their master in their serial KKK but vouched support for Aishwarya. They said replacement for her was a wise decision. Today's youngsters do not shy away from commenting on elders unlike prior generations. They dare to stand up to them. This is a world where we see managers at Twenties. Leaders are born early and growing is too fast now a days.

Any show, any entertainment is a perfect case for criticism. Opinions and Judgements are passed based on one's perception, likes and also motives. So I am not different and chose to exercise this right of mine. In the case of Prajin's now popular Zero, I give six for prajin mainly because of his conduct. He was more composed than what the ads depicted. And a zero is more painful than even a one. Surya did show signs of guilt by marking better in the subsequent episode. But he openly announced that there was an uneasy feeling among the judges on the very mediocre performances of the participants in the show. He was right on this. But his Zero marking and Jeeva ouster should not bring good marks to him. Charmila is out and it was right considering their chemistry. The marking and the awards showed that the Judges were more balanced this time. But again we saw how Surya was dominant and snubbed Sangeetha when she proposed no elimination. What he told as reason for a sure elimination however carried substance.

Can I dance? No. Do I know the basics of any form of dance? No. Then what right do i have to judge a judgement of a dance show? Simple. I have eyes and I know to enjoy a dance. I know what attracts me and feel that my likes would coincide with the likes of many who would watch a dance. After all you need not know rocket science to know that a rose smells sweet and it is the same feeling for all. So the following are the marks for the Judges of Vijay Jodi number one this week.
1. SJ Surya- 5 [1 mark minus for snubbing]
2. Master Sundaram- 7[For being more bolder and audible]
3. Sangeetha- 5[1 minus for being submissive to Surya]
4. Siva karthikeyan- 6 [For proving he is the worthy winner of KPY, of course he has to improve his dance]
5. Aishwarya- 6 [For proving her mettle and winning best female performer award. one minus for the sourness of earlier episode]

A tame end.

A very well received dance show, acclaimed as the best TV show in Tamil so far, Maanada Myulada season One finally came to an end. The results were in public domain two weeks ago and probably because of this the telecast of this mega event was not so charming. The dances were awesome, everyone rocked and the anchors were great. The stage was mesmerizing and the chief guests were great stars. The charm less ness may be because of so much sweet and less spice?

Raghav preetha looked dismal and pathetic when they were left alone holding their giant size replica of their prize cheque. Everyone in the dais was seen clamoring around Sathish and Jayshree and this two were aloof. Even the Third and Fourth prizewinners got better treatment. And when Surya asked for his comments his reply was cut short by kala who prompted him to hand over the Mike to Sathish. And preetha was not even mentioned in the dais. There was also dissapointment in the very expressive eyes of Bhavna when it was announced they were third. Well somethings cannot be hidden.

This is surely a tame end to an otherwise great show. Probably they should have shown it live without any cuts or may be a week earlier. The value of the prize is only for Sathish and Jayshree and the rest are left in cold. That includes us.

Her guru Raghu master [ brother in law of Kala master] was honoured in the stage and that is the sign of her good upbringing and also the secret of her success. She organised a great show as usual without failing to thank all the contrinutors. She also made it a point to thank the channel for being so helping. Did you know that the sizzling hostess of the program is a cousin of Master Kala. Talent runs in their blood.

This weed plucks and scratches

The highlight of the first Indo Australia CB series finals is not only Sachin's first century in Australia; it is not only the emphatic win by India but also the poetic justice delivered by Harbhajan. He took two wickets and both his victims were his anti propagandists. The obnoxious weed plucked the titled and also finished the scoring of his monkey mate.

Sydney Morning Herald claims that harbhajan showed monkey gestures and also spat at the crowd and is thus starting a new racial drama. It claims he scratched with both hands similar to the one exhibited by crowds in Mumbai and then repeated it with one hand which was shot by the newspaper. Of course this photo is no evidence of any abuse since scratching in armpit is not illegal in any court of justice. And if there is a photo, which showed him using two hands as claimed by the paper then we may have some trouble.

Harbhajan not only bowled well but also took two prize wickets and was thus very instrumental in our win. Australian Media has a reputation of creating such ruckus whenever their team is down. Hayden in his weed interview said Indians were losing and that is why they are misbehaving. That was proved wrong once again. And the world should not forget that by roping in the umpires to their side they snatched a sure win for India and won the 16th match in their equalizer test record.

Most weeds are itchy and so Hayden should come to his rescue. And Australia is down and it is high time they take the weeds out of their mind and should start behaving like Humans first and then gentle.

What do you call some thing, which keeps climbing the tree of disrepute, and which ridicules and shows faces. In India we call it a monkey.

Well Sunday March 2nd is surely a great day for Indian Cricket. There were only roses. Fist came the news of the Australia win and then a surprise win in U19 Finals. And each lad in the team is richer by 15 lakhs courtesy BCCI. It is a great feat and a good gesture. But I sincerely hope the lads keep their foot in Earth and build on this success. They will now receive great offers from IPL and ICL and This young millionaires may then be tempted to settle down early. Or may be more money may motivate them to build better castles.

Thiruvannamalai Miracle?! - Jaya TV news

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jtzu84KC5Jk&NR=1

The clipping [see link] we are seeing is recorded in Thiruannamalai by a electrician of TNEB, while his routine work on girilvalam* track, the great miracle is one siddhar (Siddhars are saints in India, mostly of the Saivaite denomination in Tamil Nadu) walking in the air when the siddhar realized someone is taking video of him he started flying and disappeared in the air.

The clipping was actually taken on 20th February 2008 around 3-4 PM IST
and was telecasted on JAYA TV on 21st February 2008

Picture quality is low as it was recorded with the help of the mobile phone

The Significance of Girivalam (Circumambulation) In most of the holy places the Deity is found atop the hill. But here the Holy hill itself is the Deity (Lord Annamalaiyar) and is worshipped. "Arunam" means sun and denotes the red colour of fire. "Asalam" means "Giri" or "malai" (mountain). Thus "Arunachalam" means the HOly hill which is rd in colour. The Holy hill is 2668 ft. high. The Annamalai Hill was Agni (fire) during Kirthayugam, was Manikkam(Emerald) during Threthayugam, was Pon (Gold) during Dwaparayugam and rock during Kaliyugam. There are eight lingams located at the eight directions and provides an octagonal structure to Thiruvannamalai Town. The eight lingams are: Indra Lingam, Agni Lingam, Yama Lingam, Niruthi Lingam, Varuna Lingam, Vayu Lingam,Kubera Lingam and Esanya Lingam. The Adi Annamalai Temple glorified in Dhevaram is located on this path. The circumambulation path is 14 Kilometres. History has it that even today a number of siddhars areliving on the hill. It is auspicious to perform "Girilvalam" during every Full moon day which would do immense good. It is because during Full Moon Day siddhars movement would be there and the whole atmosphere would be filled with perfumes of herbal plants. This will provide peace of mind and good health to body. It is a proven fact that on every Full moon day lakhs of devotees circumambulate the Hill and get all benefits by praying to Lord Annamalaiyar (less)

Transalation of the News in the clip

"a devotee while on the way to the hill, saw a saadhu on the roadside under a tree walking in the space (not on road) ....was walking for a while and suddenly flew in to the sky and disappeared " !!!!

p.s.: Many might find it difficult to find the saadhu... clue is a body trunk with hair alone wud appear in the clipping...watch its movements.

The rival Kalaignar Tv pooh poohed it in a subsequent news bulletion as a messy shot from some old maayajaala movie.

Probably it suits the Yogi?!

Budget and Cable

The folllowing are the responses of important personalities in the Indian cable scenario

1. Dish TV MD Jawahar Goel feels the DTH industry has something to feel positive about. "At present there is zero duty on import of set top boxes. Now the Finance Minister has also removed duty on import of specified parts of STBs. This will provide leverage and opportunity for DTH players to evaluate the option of manufacturing STBs locally," he says.

2.Tata Sky MD and CEO Vikram Kaushik, however, doesn't agree that there is too much for the sector. "The benefits are so insignificant that the impact will be almost homoeopathic," he says. There is only a relaxation on some of the components for manufacture of the STBs. "We had expected much more, especially significant reduction on excise duty, which has been denied us," Kaushik adds. The issue of double taxation, with the entertainment industry having to pay both entertainment as well as service tax, has been left unchanged.

3.The multi-system operators (MSOs) are more cautious. Says Hathway Cable and Datacom MD and CEO K Jayaraman, "It is too early to see how the STB vendors respond to the duty waiver of some components and set up manufacturing bases in India. This will succeed only if the foreign vendors start producing here. Local manufacturers will also feel encouraged but they have to comply with the conditional access vendor."

4.MSO Alliance secretary Avnindra Mohan says, "There is marginal benefit on some STB components; it would be of some use only when Indian companies start producing STBs on a large scale. As it is, 90 per cent of the STBs are being imported today,"

5. The Cable Operators Federation of India president Roop Sharma, "There is no provision of making digital headends cheaper. The marginal help to STB manufacturing would only be good for the DTH players and also of IPTV. But there are only 500000 STBs in the Cas (conditional access system) notified areas. So it hardly makes any difference to us. What the cable industry needed was incentives for digital headends."

6.Star India CEO Uday Shankar says, "The incentives provided for STB manufacture is a welcome sign. In fact, anything that goes towards digitalisation is good because this country is a victim of choked distribution pipes on analogue systems."

7.Global Broadcast News joint MD Sameer Manchanda says, "The government has done something for the STBs and also for the convergence equipment. Since this is good for digitalization, it is also good for us as broadcasters."

8. INX Media founder and CEO Indrani Mukerjea: "The budget has provided an impetus for growth to the Digital revolution - by reducing the duty on certain specific components of STBs to nil. I am also happy that duty on convergence products related to the media and entertainment industry has been halved. Of course, I wish there had been a reduction in corporate tax rates for the industry too."

9.Televisions will get marginally cheaper because of cenvat reduction.

Exam Month serials

March is the month for exams. Many households in Tamilnadu disconnect their cable connections for the sake of their children. But the serial addicts will remain hooked, as usual. There are no survey's in public domain to suggest any drastic reduction in televiewing in Tamilnadu. But I myself know atleast twenty families who do not watch anything during this period.

Simran is a very popular name and many are anxiously waiting for her serial Simran Thirai which is starting from Monday March 3, 2008 and will be telecast every weekday at 8.30 PM.

In the first story[ March 2008] Simran plays the role of Raji, a happy-go-lucky girl who gets married to a businessman soon after completing her college education. Raji realises how a woman is expected to compromise and sacrifice on simple pleasures of life after getting married. The rest of the story is all about the struggle between her individuality and expectations from the family and what decisions she takes to lead a happy life. Raghav plays the role of her husband Arjun, who runs a finance company. The story is from a novel written by Late Sujatha.

Thekkathi semaiele- a Serial by Bharaathiraja is bound to start in Kalaignar Tv from the Third week of March and most probably will be in the same time as Simran Thirai. Illayaraja is playing the title song and Noor, the background music.

Simran - Super star(s)

Simran will be back in Televison from March 3rd on wards [week days- 8.30 pm.], in her new mega serial in Jaya Tv 'Simran Thirai'. This will consist of one month long stories and is a mega budget production.

Sun Tv is now advertising that she will soon be in it for a reality show titled Super stars. The details are still sketchy.

The Different show and the Battle of sexes

Human species consist of two sexes- Male and female. This is the education we learn in our schools and this is what we see in our environment. They look different have different anatomy and research has proven they think different. Their response to similar stimuli is many times different due to their difference in thinking and reacting.

Gender differences stem from nurture and nature alike. It's not only biology,
but Socialization that shapes men and women.

In the past few decades, researchers have discovered physiological variations in the brains of men and women. For example, male brains are about 10% larger than female brains. But women have more nerve cells in certain areas and have a larger corpus collusum That makes women faster at transferring data between the computational, verbal left half and the intuitive, visual right half. Result: Women are more flexible and find it easier to multitask. Men are usually left-brain oriented. That often makes then better at solving abstract equations and problems.
Females, on average, have larger deep limbic systems than males. This is why Venusians tend to be more in touch with their feelings and are better able to express them than men. The larger deep limbic system also increases a Venusian's ability to connect and bond with others.
The downside of this is that women are more susceptible to depression, because of the larger limbic system and because they produce less serotonin than men

Females in India were more equal in our ancient times in India, But after the foreign invasion viz Mughal and British rule, they were confined to house largely due to fear of safety and thus male domination became profound. Males did most Jobs except probably agriculture.
Industrial revolution then made the early changes. Technology is gender neutral and it has empowered women. it requires finesse not brawn to operate. The era of hand-to-hand combat is increasingly taken over by computer-guided techno-weapons. Muscles the main source of strength is finding less use in a modern world.

Today we find women in all spheres of our life. They are even in army and police albeit in small numbers. In the IT industry, most of our BPO’s employ more women than men. The Indian parliament meanwhile is trying to get more women leaders by reserving 33%. In USA and in many developed nations women employees have outnumbered men already in almost all industries. But in the CEO and top management level they are still a minority and in India they are very few.

Kiran Bedi, the highly decorated ex woman police officer, said in one of her lectures that women and men should learn from each other about the positive qualities. If men have the three Ms – money, mobility and muscle, then women have three Hs – humanity, healing touch and heart.

We would all be happier if we believed that all so-called masculine and feminine characteristics such as left/ right brain thinking, intuition, physical activities, vulnerability, competitiveness, anger, grief, nurturing abilities, etc. were possible characteristics for everyone. I would agree that anyone who totally denies any of these traits is not fulfilling his/ her potential. That does not imply, however, in some hypothetical perfect society that women and men would display equal quantities or qualities of these characteristics. Instead, there is much evidence to suggest that there are inherent tendencies caused by hormones and genes that promote or inhibit these qualities. So they remain different, but that does not matter any longer for any position and for any job.

Ippadikku Rose is a reality show, which has its main agenda as to discuss about these sexes and also about the Third Gender. This is of course a delicate agenda and needs careful handling. Of course its agenda is even broader and it advertises that it is about social issues and not necessarily about these sexes. The topics mentioned are 'Domestic violence in foreign countries', 'Sexual harassment in colleges', 'the life of models', 'The rise in number of divorces among celebrities'. But the symbol exhibited prominently in the show and the host clearly suggests what will be predominant in future shows.

There are many in India who are not even aware that a group called Third gender exist in their world.[ believe it or not]. Many see it as a disability of mind. The host Rose says, “Transgender in India are seen as immoral and evil,” “I will break that image by being articulate, intelligent and a bit like the girl next door.” And clearly reveals her intentions.

If there was a male host any issue on sexes will be perceived as being conducted with a male bias and similar if it was a female host. In this show they have a ‘different’ host and she is expected to combine the Three M’s and H’s to give a better balance to the issues.

There are many popular talk shows in various channels and the world richest television celebrity is a female talk show hostess, Oprah winfrey. We have our Visu, Gopinath, Lakshmi, Revathi, Mamatha chary, Charmila and Anu hassan etc. If Rose is compared with them, She would have won her cause. She need not overtake them but to be part of their brigade itself will be her greatest contribution to her race.

All the popular names written above had already a reputation before they started hosting a talk show. They just needed to built on their reputation. Rose is at disadvantage here because there is no prior media experience. Added to it is her
'difference'. Now how she overcomes it and establishes a name for her is the curiosity element. And so far she is in the right track.

Her first show was telecast yesterday at ten PM in Vijay TV. The stage and the atmosphere were great. The audience did justice to her mission by completely being at ease with her presence and at no time where they at discomfort. She also conducted the show with no special exhibit of her being different. It is a good first step.

The music was sometimes irritating and she might have to improve her modulation. Her attempt to get both sides of the issue is definitely a very good sign and proves her caliber. She has proved what she is capable and we hope she will build on it.

The first show was about sexual harassment in colleges. And the affected sex was shown as females. It did not suggest any solution nor did it mass a judgment and it was a open discussion. Two females talked about their experiences and then a Dean of a college in the stage audience responded. She then got a couple, one a teacher and her wife who was his ex student to the stage. The issue discussed was whether it was proper for a Teacher to marry a student. The couple was mostly embraced and it was evident from their answers. The two girls surprisingly said it was Ok if they were really in love. The dean was steadfast on his stand that it was improper. Rose quickly got all their views and ended the show by telling that she will be back with a different topic.

Vijay TV had advertised that it is a show with difference and the first show was different. The Host underplayed her ‘difference’ but her conduct and style was no doubt different. In a month of Exams I am not sure whether she will bring enough TRP’s but she has exhibited her potential and the Judgment is not far away.

Zee Tamil

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, one of the country's leading entertainment groups, is all set to launch its Tamil channel again. Zee Tamizh, the new 24 hours entertainment channel, will be launched with in six months so said by the group's South CEO G Ramprasad yesterday. According to him, they will come out with a Malayalam channel too along with the Tamil channel.

Railway Budget- Counter view

See Sweet Laloo's 2009-10 Budget and Tamilnadu benefits by clicking this

"The Railway Budget 2008-09, which is the last Railway budget of the UPA government is purported to be a 'please all' budget but all that it has done is to please the minister himself immensely," AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa said in a statement .

while the budget made provision for adding new railway lines, doubling of lines and gauge conversion projects, it was highly disappointing that no announcement was made with regard to new routes for connecting the coastal districts of Southern Tamil Nadu

The BJP on Tuesday criticised the Railway Budget 2008, terming it ‘disappointing’ and noting that the announcements made for reduction in fares were just an ‘eyewash’.
“The Railway Budget presented by Lalu Prasad is disappointing. Members from various states made noise and walked out, which shows that the hopes of all the states turned into disappointment,” BJP spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters in New Delhi.
Calling the reduction in fares an 'eyewash', Malhotra claimed that the expenses for the passengers would go up through increase in the charges for food, reservation, cancellation and other amenities
“People are being cheated. Passenger trains are being re designated as super fast trains. The coaches would remain the same but the fares would go up,” he said.
“This is 'jaadu-tona' (magic trick). People cannot see, but they will have to pay more now. Never before has so much burden been put on the people,” Malhotra said.

The chamber of commerce coimbatore: we are quite disappointed that no mention has been made in the budget for introduction of an exclusive night train between Coimbatore and Bangalore and trains between Coimbatore and East Coast cities of Tamil Nadu."
Expressing concern that gauge conversion of Coimbatore-Dindigul segment has not found a place in the budget, the chamber appealed to the Union Railway Minister not to neglect this industrial city, which is the second largest revenue earning city in the State.

BJP National Committee member S.R. Seghar and State convenor R. Kalyanasundaram said there were no announcements on the long-pending demands such as Coimbatore - Bangalore overnight express train and additional train to Chennai. Similarly the budget lacked any mention about allocations for the Coimbatore North Junction - Irugur railway line doubling and for the upcoming railway division at Salem. "There was no mention on improving passenger amenities at Coimbatore Junction." With the budget having no focus on development, the announcement of bringing down the passenger tariff by Re 1 was only an attempt to divert the attention. The mere announcement to observe the year 2007-08 as cleanliness year would serve no purpose without addressing the problems, they said.
The trade and business community in Salem expressed their disappointment over the Railway budget for not specifying the fund allocation and other relevant plans for the Salem Railway Division.

Jaya news and Jaya plus are highlighting the failure to include south Tamilnadu in the railway bonanza. No doubling of lines and no new trains for the south. Even Sixty years after independence, Tamilnadu is still having meter gauge. It said. In spite of 13 ministers from the state and also one in railways, they could not get funds for this they complained.

The Tamil Nadu State Rail Users’ Welfare Association noted that the announcement that nine new trains would be operated in Tamil Nadu did not convince the commuters. Of the proposed new trains, at least four were already running on the metre gauge and these included the Chennai-Rameswaram, Chennai-Tiruchi, Villupuram-Mayiladuthurai and Varanasi-Rameswaram trains.
Because of the gauge conversion works, these trains had been suspended and the restoration of services on metre gauge could not be claimed as introduction of new trains.
It further said Union Minister of State for Railways R.Velu had repeatedly told reporters that double-track facility would be provided on the 270-km Villupuram-Dindigul sector.
Piecemeal work
But, the budget was silent on this aspect and hence, the commuters were disappointed.
The gauge conversion work was being done in bits and pieces and therefore, there was uncertainty over the completion of the project on schedule, the association said.
Besides the cost over-runs, the delay would also cause inconvenience to the travellers.
The budget did not make any mention about the need for speedy completion of the gauge conversion works.
The association said that the Vriddhachalam-Salem passenger had been running with poor complement of passengers.
Ever since the gauge conversion work was taken up, Cuddalore was cut off from rail connectivity.

Response from Chief Minister
The announcement on survey for a railway line between Karaikudi and Kanyakumari, via Ramanathapuram and Tuticorin is a scheme which would benefit the coastal areas of south Tamil Nadu,"
last year's railway budget, Tamil Nadu got Rs 1,075 crore for various schemes, but this year it had been hiked to Rs 1,327 crore.
Several new trains were sanctioned to Tamil Nadu and of the 94 over bridges proposed this year in the budget, 25 were for Tamil Nadu, he said.

Captain TV

Film star and DMDK leader Vijayakanth is all set to launch a Tamil TV channel and a vernacular newspaper to help take his political campaigns to the masses. The Captain TV will be launched on Pongal day (January 14) in 2009, in time for the Lok Sabha elections, as per the star’s brother-in-law and party youth wing secretary L.K.Sudeesh.

Following in the footsteps of the Tamil Nadu’s unwritten political exercise of mixing politics generously with entertainment to take their own party activities to the public, Mr Vijayakanth will be the latest to join the bandwagon of political leaders running TV channels.

Vijay's challenge

Vijay TV is starting a new program called Ippadikku Rose tomorrow at 10.00 PM. This a interactive talk show which will discuss and try to find solutions for human emotional issues. So what is new? The host. For the first time in Indian Television history a transgender will host the program. The program is not necessarily only about transgender. She will be in this as a host just like how any male or female would have been. In her own words, this is an attempt to bring the trans genders to mainstream and let them be accepted as normal and multifaceted performers. Now how will the audience accept Rose is the moot question. Earlier Bobby doll and sylvia have made a career in films. But no one so far has been in TV. In Indian films transgenders have been mostly objects and for ridicule. Will rose be able to change this?
Curiosity will bring TRP's for initial episodes. But from there on it will be in the hands of Rose. Vijay is about to create history.

Kathipara- March 30th?

See Latest update in "flyover Tourism"

See when will we fly? before reading this. Kathipara Junction may be partially open before March 30st says grapevine. Though the deadline is March 2008 they may be delays. A project started in 2004 is already more than a year behind schedule. The reasons being land acquisition problems, labor problems and default by earlier developer[ The Tamil Nadu Road Development Corporation?! ]

And since Defence has not agreed to let out space there is complete change in plan so it will not look like what was envisaged.

Simran Thirai starts on March 3rd.

Simran Thirai - the much awaited mega produced by Pyramid samira and which is expected to catapult Simran to number uno in Tamil television will commence from March 3rd in Jaya TV every Monday to Friday at 8.30 PM.

Super dancers of SUN TV

Close up Super dancers finals was telecast in Sun TV yesterday. Gopinath won the solo. Amazing Dancers , the group and Jack and Jill, the duo. The other finalists were Samyukta and Anitha in Solo, RUnit in Group, Bala and Shalini's in duo.

The winners were presented Trophies by Mallavika. Though the Sun TV website talks about cash prize also, It was not shown in live and details are not in public domain.

The performance by all participants was worth the hour.

Surya hero, Prajin and Jeeva Zero

It is a reality show. So whatever happens is shot and revealed to us. The participants are aware and have signed a contract with Vijay TV so if they come bad in the final reel it is part of the game. But Vijay Jodi number one is not a dance contest of seasoned dancers. The participants are actors in Vijay TV with a fan following and reputation to guard. So what happened in the sets of Vijay Jodi number one does create some sourness at least for a section of participants and viewers.

How can you make a dance show of mediocre’s, a successful show with more than average TRP? Simple- you add some masala, some guest glamour and lots of comedy and make it watch able. That is exactly what the producers are at. And obviously to make this happen there has to be some scapegoats. Yesterday it was Jeeva and Prajin.

That Jeeva and Ishwarya were not in good terms was evident from the Friday show. Ishwarya had rehearsed for song, which suited her, and Jeeva did not come for practice till a day before the shoot. And when he came he insisted for a song, which suited his style. Since he had limited knowledge in dance, he felt and insisted on a change to this song. Ishwarya’s contention was for continuous three shows they are dancing for Rajni solo numbers, which made her look small. Ishwarya is a dancer and she was good even yesterday. But Jeeva was not very bad and he did perform. But the Friday show was already in the news and the Judges must have seen it too. So their minds were already biased and a decision to remove Jeeva has already been made. The rest was drama.

Sangeetha rightly, tried to avoid this and asked the pair to make amends. But Jeeva was in no mood for a compromise. Their contention that Ishwarya should not miss out like Uma Riyaz did, because of a mistake of her partner, looks fine and judicious but not justice to Jeeva. Ishwaya and their choreographer should have taken Jeeva to confidence before selecting the song. It is evident this was not done. The reasons may have been justifiable but we are not aware. In an age of cell phones and with prior knowledge of his shooting spots it is unbelievable that they could not contact him. Jeeva as he said, does not know to dance for any one else but to imitate Rajini. So his preference is also right. But he should have tried to objectively convince his partner. There is no evidence to suggest this happened. But nevertheless he bulldozed and made them accept. The matter should have ended here and they should have performed but asked for an arbitrator for future shows. Secondly they did not become partners by choice. Infact no pair in the contest had their choice. So now why only Ishwarya is given this right?

As a pair they should have been marked and in case eliminated then they could have tried to bring her back with a new Jodi. In Sun TV Mastana Mastana I remember how Mahendran got Neepa as a new pair after being eliminated. Infact they went on to become winners. There was better justice then.

In this case both failed as a pair but their dance should have been judged purely by performance and the marks should have been revealed.

SJ Surya said that Master was telling that Ishwarya should be given a new pair and Jeeva should not be compelled to find a new pair and if he wishes he can leave. Well I am not sure whether it was right on part of SJ Surya to reveal what Master told in private to him And if it was ok with Master he should have boldly said it so in Mike.

Credit should be given to Jeeva for he handled himself well in the stage and made the correct decision of seconding the Judge’s decision of sending him out. And between the Three Judges, Sangeetha was the best, for first she attempted to keep the pair in the contest, Then to talk to Jeeva and to suggest ways to make amends with Ishwarya, and when finally a decision was made, she expressed openly and argued for the Judgment. Master had made his mind to eliminate Jeeva. He did not see the first dance so he must have felt that Ishwarya a good dancer may be loosing out because she is with Jeeva. But that is not worthy of a Judge, with due respects to him. SJ Surya also tried to convince Jeeva to find a pair. But just like how Jeeva bulldozed his way against Ishwarya’s wishes, Surya did it today and there is more than one instance when he has over powered sangeetha. Was there a collective Judgement?

And Prajin- chandra getting Zero is ridiculous. Of course Prajin was a disaster. Most of the time he was just standing not to know what next but his pair did well so they could have given a mark or two. Now what happened after that is still not in public domain so we will wait? The following are the marks for the members involved in this controversy and like the Judges we need not explain why.

Normally controversies do not mar the career of any artiste but enhances it. Being in News is free advertisement. And Vijay TV has once again proved it is master of shows. That some one some where is spending so much words and time to discuss its show itself is sign of success.
1. Jeeva – 6/10
2. Ishwarya- 4/10
3. SJ Surya- 3/10
4. Master- 4/10
5. Sangeetha- 7/10
6. Prajin- pending
7. Chandra- 6/10[sympathy]
8. Vijay TV- 9/10 [ TRP]
