Three Flyovers one near the airport, Panagal park and the fully complete Kathipara junction, were opened for public this month. The GN CHETTY and a few more flyovers are expected to open in the coming months.
The face of Chennai has changed for ever. Now the famous and grand old Gemini flyover has a real competition from a much bigger and probably more useful kathipara Junction clover leaf shaped flyover. But how much are these flyovers helping.

The airport flyover has not really eased traffic congestion and there are problems for the airport staff for now they have to trek to catch a bus for their destination as bus stops are far away now. Also it is reported that airport is visible very clearly from the flyover and hence on lookers get down from their vehicles and are using the flyover for sight seeing, creating blockades. Also I am not sure how safe it is being so close to airport and it being so visible. Probably laying a see thru fence for security purpose is necessary.

There are some traffic confusions as proper route directions are not in display. One person has died with in a week after its inauguration and nearly half a dozen injured. Hope they correct this. Otherwise the flyover looks good and once some green is added beneath it, it will be great.

The Panagal park flyover is bad to say the least. It is creating problem for the walking crowd in usman road and most popular shops are with lesser access now. And the rains create more confusion. The road under the flyover has frequent traffic jams and as of now mostly diverted public buses only use this fly over.
